Sri Satyanarayana Swami Vrata also known as Sri Satyanarayana Pooja is a parihara pooja and is performed in the Hindu households. It is believed that by conducting Sri Satyanarayana Swami Pooja with benevolence and sincerity, Lord Satyanarayana (a form of Sri Mahavishnu) will be pleased and mitigate problems. The reference to Satyanarayana Pooja is found in Skanda Purana and legend has it that a great man Kings and merchants have performed the ritual in the past to overcome adversity and earn the grace of Satyanarayana Swami.
Sri Satyanarayana Swami vratam is a detailed ceremony performed both in the households and Devasthanam (temples) on auspicious days such as the full moon day, 11th day after full moon day (Ekadashi), or the day of solar eclipse. It is also performed to celebrate certain events such as Grihapravesha, buying of something with great value, marriage in the house, birth of a child, starting of a new business, getting a job.
